Blind faith in religion can turn human beings foolish. Telangana man who dug up a national highway to find a Shiva ling is the latest example.

In a strange act of a faith, Lakhan Manoj of Gundlagadda, dug up Warangal-Hyderabad highway near Pembarthy village in Jangaon district of Telangana after claiming that he had a dream that there was a Shiva Linga underground.

Lakhan Manoj of Gundlagadda told villagers that Lord Shiva appeared in his dream and tasked him to build a Shiva temple at a certain location and he further added that the area must be excavated to find a Shiva Linga.

“Manoj is an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and has been getting this dream since three years. He asked us to help him dig up the spot and construct the temple. He used to conduct prayers at this location every Monday. As Manoj swooned in excitement at this spot we believed him.” the sarpanch of Jangaon Balne Siddu Lingam said to TheHindu

Special prayers arranged

Manoj hired an earth mover with the support of other villagers and started the excavation work on the spot on Monday morning. Special prayers were arranged as digging began. Later upon digging 20 feet, they could not find anything.

As digging up created traffic jam on the national highway and police was then informed about it. Police, rushed to the spot, stopped the work and  detained Manoj, the Sarpanch and five others.

West Zone DCP T. Venkanna alongwith ACP Padmanabha Reddy visited the site and pit is covered.

“Investigation is on. We will register a case soon,” the DCP said.
